IDC launches connected car advisory

IDC Manufacturing Insights has launched the Connected Vehicle Strategies Advisory Service.

This is a research practice designed to provide insight into the most innovative developments in the automotive and transportation industry.

Smarter, connected vehicles are changing the transportation landscape, offering dramatically improved driver convenience, fuel economy, eco-friendliness and safety

Sheila Brennan, IDC Manufacturing Insights
The new service will be focused on understanding the key role of emerging technologies, connectivity, consumer adoption drivers, and developing business models across the network of manufacturers, carriers, regulators, utilities, technology, and content providers.

This is allied with IDC Government Insights' smart cities research programme, and IDC Energy Insights' smart grid research.

“Smarter, connected vehicles are changing the transportation landscape, offering dramatically improved driver convenience, fuel economy, eco-friendliness and safety,” said Sheila Brennan, IDC Manufacturing Insights programme manager for Connected Vehicle Strategies. “However, the industry needs robust compelling use cases to drive adoption.

“Competing business models and disconnects between the stakeholders developing the connected vehicle technologies, coupled with fledgling industry standards, limit the ability to harness consumer and business benefits in the near term."
