NEC releases digital signage solution
2 August 2013
NEC Display Solutions Europe has released leafengine, a middleware solution designed to develop digital signage by combining sensor plug-and-play functionality under a single interface.
leafengine provides real-time interaction with minimal resource consumption and is designed to run next to the player software
NEC Display Solutions Europe Developed in collaboration with the NEC Laboratories in Heidelberg, leafengine allows users to programme and maintain a range sensor-driven, context-aware signage.
This includes interactive trailers, interactive shopper support, loyalty systems and data mapping.
The software’s standardised interface enables users build a range of different sensors into their digital signage applications, as well as modifying and managing the content.
“New smart signage uses sensors to drive interactive, personalised content based on sensor detection, but encoding all the different manufacturers’ sensors can be time consuming and inflexible,” said Thorsten Wilm, manager of Software Solutions and Future Technologies at NEC Display Solutions Europe. “leafengine provides real-time interaction with minimal resource consumption and is designed to run next to the player software, making the whole process as simple as possible.”
The Java-based application can run in a Windows and other environments, while users can manage the connected sensors via an online portal, an intuitive web page graphical user interface or an HTTP REST API.
