New Dynamics AX release is available
4 December 2012
Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R2 is now available in 36 countries. The release was announced by Christian Pedersen, general manager of the Microsoft Dynamics Product Marketing Group, in a blog post.
I believe that one of the most exciting enhancements in this release is the support for multiple languages and local business and regulatory requirements from a single instance
Microsoft Speaking about some of the enhancements in the new release of Microsoft’s enterprise-level ERP system, Pedersen said: “I believe that one of the most exciting enhancements in this release is the support for multiple languages and local business and regulatory requirements from a single instance of Microsoft Dynamics AX. Enterprises can streamline international operations while complying with local regulations and business needs.”
Pedersen then went onto highlight the benefits a manufacturing customer is already achieving with the new release.
Sematic Group, which fabricates and delivers complex doors, cabins and elevators, is taking advantage of the R2 release to support its plans to boost its global presence. The company has grown 600 per cent in the past four years already and its continued success depends on the ability to scale efficiently and effectively. Until last year, every subsidiary maintained its own ERP system, usually from a local vendor, with some systems more than 20 years old. Local entities also established their own business processes, and it was extremely difficult to share customer or operational data among the companies.
Sematic evaluated major ERP vendors, including SAP and Oracle, before determining that Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R2 best suited its needs. In particular, the company was impressed by the solution’s ability to deploy localised versions of the application from a single instance. Built-in support to comply with country-specific regulations in some of Sematic’s developing markets, including China and India, reduced the need for site-by-site customisation and further supported the decision to deploy Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R2.
Three countries are already live on the solution and three more are poised to go live soon. Already, intercompany flow between the headquarters in Italy and the manufacturing plant in the UK has streamlined procurement, enhanced CTP planning, and improved sales processes. But most notably, having a common repository for customer and supplier data has driven initial efforts at standardising common business processes.
