Windows Server 8 beta released

Hot on the heels of the release of the Windows 8 Consumer Preview at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Microsoft has now made the beta version of Windows Server 8 available.

Microsoft first introduced Windows Server 8 as a developer preview at the BUILD conference, which took place in California in September.

There are several new capabilities that Microsoft has been keen to highlight in areas including:

  • Virtualisation through a multi-tenant platform for cloud computing
  • High availability and disaster recovery
  • Multi-machine management and automation
  • A server application platform for application workloads.

Bill Laing, corporate vice president, Server and Cloud, Microsoft provides more details about all these capabilities in a post on the Windows Server blog.
